Based in Houston, Texas, Jameson Sweeney is a tenor saxophonist whose approach to jazz is grounded in listening, interaction, and a respect for the tradition. A student at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, he has developed as a musician through demanding ensemble work, small-group playing, festivals, competitions, and performances in Houston and beyond.

Jameson performs with the Jazz Houston Youth Orchestra and has earned individual recognition at the regional, state, and national levels, including Outstanding Tenor Saxophone at Jazz at Lincoln Center's Essentially Ellington Competition & Festival and recognition through TMEA, DownBeat Student Music Awards, and the Texas Southern University Jazz Festival. He was also selected to attend GRAMMY Camp in New York City for jazz saxophone.

While tenor saxophone is his primary instrument, Jameson also plays soprano, alto, and baritone saxophone and doubles on clarinet and flute. That versatility has given him opportunities to work across different ensembles and musical settings.

More than collecting accomplishments, his focus remains on becoming a better musician. Jazz has taught him that playing is only one part of the conversation. Listening, responding, and knowing when to leave space are just as important as what comes out of the horn.

As he continues to develop his own sound, Jameson is interested in performing and collaborating with other musicians, and ultimately building a career centered around small-group jazz, touring, and leading projects of his own.
